…..Aren’t you somethin’ to admire?
Justin embarked on his seventh headlining world tour this spring with a phenomenal opening night in our very own Canada, to support his latest album Everything I Thought It Was. The tour is scheduled to conclude in Paris!
Following a highly-publicized performance of the song Selfish and announcing the release of his then-upcoming album during a segment of Jimmy Fallon back in January, the tour dates were revised to include more dates to accommodate the unprecedented demand. Was it worth it?
Hell, yeah.
After an opening act, NSYNC alum JT and his 14-strong band “The Tennessee Kids” made their way onto the stage and performed No Angels. He swayed with his signature moves on the centre of the stage and an overly zealous band engaged the audience while busily playing the drums, trumpets, guitars, etc. The dancers had a cool vibe too.
I wouldn’t call myself the biggest fan of JT, but I had definitely heard a lot of his music growing up. So, when I went for my first show, I did not know what to expect- would I get bored? Surprisingly, no. Justin managed to hold my attention throughout the whole concert, whether he was performing on the Main Stage or Stage B, whether it was the extraordinary visuals or the hi-tech concept. I found myself grooving to the tunes of unfamiliar music. The first half was filled with not-so-popular songs, save for Cry Me a River. But I honestly wasn’t bored. At all.
As JT and his band made their way to Stage B after performing around 14-15 songs, he started focusing on his hits. Think Suit and Tie, Say Something, Selfish and What Goes Around…Comes Around. He ended his performance on the second stage with a chorus covering Drake’s Hotline Bling.
As he made his way back to the main stage, he danced and sang Can’t Stop the Feeling! The crowd was wild. Tennessee Kids were so savvy. He went on to perform Rock Your Body and Sexy Back on the main stage.
And then it happened: the floating stage encore. Holy. I don’t know how he does it show after show. The audience went wild! The ones right below the projection were screaming in excitement while hiding their anxiety about it collapsing on them. The rest of the audience actively sang along as Justin serenaded the crowd with a beautiful rendition of Mirrors.
Justin’s uptempo classic dance moves, R&B vibe and soul-funk retro music made my night fun, even though his crowd interaction was basically absent. He performed. That’s it. But it was one hell of a performance!
If you get a chance to see it, go ahead before he shuts down this tour in 2025!:)
