One Lash Shot was born from that feeling.
Our Founder and Director, Lakshmi, has been drawn to writing since childhood. And long before she ever began writing about film, she was watching it. A lot of it. As a child, Lakshmi developed an almost endless appetite for movies, becoming fascinated by the characters, worlds and stories unfolding on screen.
In her late teens, that passion evolved into fashion journalism, leading her to cover fashion weeks around the world. She immersed herself in the energy, creativity and personalities of the fashion industry and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.
But even while covering fashion, film was never far away. Lakshmi found herself constantly connecting the two, noticing the cinematic references in fashion, the storytelling in collections, the influence of characters and films on designers, and the way both worlds use imagery, music, mood and emotion to tell a story.
Perhaps, in hindsight, the connection was always there.
As Lakshmi attended film festivals and met filmmakers, actors and other members of the film world, she became increasingly fascinated by the stories behind the screen and the artistry that brings them to life. Those experiences inspired her to begin writing critical film reviews.
Not because she believed her opinion was the only one that mattered. Quite the opposite.
She simply believed that if a film made you feel something, it was worth putting that feeling into words.
And that idea became the foundation of One Lash Shot.
A Different Take on Film
At One Lash Shot, film is at the heart of everything we do.
We look beyond the obvious. We pay attention to the performances, the cinematography, the music, the storytelling, the details and those little moments that can transform a good film into an unforgettable one.
Our reviews are personal, honest and unapologetically subjective.
Because cinema is not a science. The same film can leave one person speechless and another completely cold. And that is exactly what makes talking about movies so much fun.
We watch. We feel. We question. We write.
Alongside film, our curiosity naturally extends into fashion, music, culture and the creative worlds that surround cinema. But wherever the journey takes us, storytelling remains at the centre.
Why One Lash Shot?
When Lakshmi decided to formally create a website, she wanted a name that felt personal.
Her closest friends had always called her Lash.
So the name One Lash Shot was born.
A little personal. A little playful. And perfectly suited to a platform built around taking a shot at expressing one person’s perspective.
Because at the end of the day, that is what One Lash Shot is about.
One film. One perspective. One shot at putting it all into words.
