Oscars 2025: And the Nominees are…

  • Emilia Perez led with 13 nominations, followed by The Brutalist and Wicked with 10 nominations.

  • The Academy welcomed the Brazilian filmmaker’s family drama I’m Still Here to the race with 3 nominations including Best Picture.
  • Sebastian Stan’s performance in The Apprentice earned him a nod in the Best Actor category.
  • Latvia’s Flow, the low-budget animated film that was mired in AI controversy received two nominations, the expected Best Animated Feature Film and surprisingly a nod in the Best International Feature Film category. This is also Latvia’s first-ever Oscar nominations.
  • A Complete Unknown swiped several nominations including one for Monica Barbaro as Best Supporting Actress. Although she was great as Joan Baez, I am not sure in what way the movie was so great.
  • Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu earned 4 nominations despite releasing quite late in the game.
  • Felicity Jones achieved a nomination for her performance in The Brutalist, despite not being an awards season favourite so far.
  • Canada’s Universal Language and Thailand’s hit How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies failed to be nominated in the Best International Feature Film category.
  • Daniel Craig was not given a nod for his performance in Queer as Best Actor.
  • Dune Director Denis Villeneuve failed to get nominated under the Best Director category.
  • Selena Gomez was snubbed for her performance in Emilia Perez under the Best Supporting Actress category.
  • Marianne Jean-Baptiste’s lack of nomination for her performance in Hard Truths proved to be a confounding oversight.
  • Debatable, but the goodwill garnered for Pamela Anderson’s performance in The Last Showgirl, was not enough to win an Oscar nod.
  • Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman did not get nominated for their performance in Maria and Babygirl respectively.
